Finnish Ambassador to China visits The Switch booth at Wind Power Asia 2010

Beijing, China  June 25, 2010 – The Switch, an innovative, Finland-based New Energy company, participated in Wind Power Asia 2010 with its proven portfolio of permanent magnet generators (PMG) and full-power converters (FPC), the critical components for wind turbine manufacturers. Lars Backström, Finnish Ambassador to China, visited The Switch booth to find out more about the company’s successful track record of just over 3 GW of installed wind capacity in less than three years of operation.

With China taking a leading role in the wind power industry, Finnish Ambassador to China Lars Backström visited The Switch booth to learn more about the company’s implementation of innovative technology together with Chinese wind turbine companies.

“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-Finland relations,” he said during his visit. “Country leaders from both countries are encouraging their companies to strengthen bilateral cooperation in ecological preservation and environmental protection. So, there’s a great potential for The Switch in this regard.”

Together with Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen, President and CEO of The Switch, he visited also the Hafei Wind Power booth to learn more about the medium-speed PMG The Switch has developed for Hafei’s wind turbines.

“We’re pleased that The Switch is playing an active role in most of China’s PMG based technology with our significant installed base,” said Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen. “With the offshore boom and advantages brought about by boosting grid compatibility and energy yield, the pioneering efforts of The Switch in PMG technology will secure our continued overall growth as we move forward in China. The next challenge The Switch has taken on is to make PMG technology commercially viable for the wind power industry at large. We have been focusing on pricing to make PMG not only the preferred choice, but also the most affordable one.”
