The Switch wins Finnish President award

A New Energy technology company, The Switch has today been awarded with The Internationalization Award by Tarja Halonen, President of Finland. The company’s growth has been based on the growing renewable energy markets globally and successful technology. For 2011, the company has received orders worth tens of millions of Euros.

Vantaa, Finland  February 3, 2011 – ”Although our main markets are in China, Europe and the US, we are honored to receive such distinction in Finland. We see the rapid growth of our company as a reflection of the right choice of technology to meet the needs of the major key wind turbine manufacturers and other renewable energy players. We believe in the future of New Energy, and we have encouraging proof that the rest of the world has woken up to its potential,” says Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen, President and CEO.

The President of Finland’s Internationalization Award is presented annually to Finnish companies who have succeeded internationally. The criteria include international growth of the company, profitability, its networking ability, developing new products and services as well as ethical operations.

Since starting operations in July 2006, The Switch has reached net sales of EUR 96.5 million with the 2010 estimate exceeding EUR 130 million. The demand for The Switch solutions remains high as the company confirms orders worth tens of millions of Euros for 2011 from current as well as new customers in leading wind turbine manufacturing countries.

“One of our success factors has been our permanent magnet generator (PMG) and full-power converter (FPC) packages, which offer undisputed advantages for distributed energy production in wind power plants. Another factor is our open-minded engineering teams, which have adapted traditional electrical technology to renewable energy systems and equipment,” Mäkinen explains “Our expertise has been well received within the international wind power market, despite the fact that Finland is a relatively minor player in wind power investments to date.”

The Switch has also invested heavily on a scalable production model concept with a strong network of partners in China, Finland, Denmark, Germany, India, Korea and Spain. The Model Factory concept enables the parallel manufacturing of The Switch products in production facilities around the world.

The Switch supplies PMG and FPC packages for New Energy sources like wind and solar. By focusing on PMG technology, The Switch has helped the world’s top turbine manufacturers, such as Goldwind, Doosan and PowerWind, succeed to generate more high-quality electricity. The Switch is headquartered in Vantaa, Finland with production facilities in Finland, China and the US, and offices in Denmark, India, Germany and Spain. At present, the company employs 270 persons.
