The Switch joined forces with BEMAC Corporation at this year’s SMM in Hamburg from September 3–6, 2024, to present the company’s extended range of solutions for the maritime industry.
Asbjørn Halsebakke, Senior Manager, Marine Concepts at The Switch, presented the company’s power electronics product range, while Markus Silventoinen presented The Switch permanent magnet machines for shaft generators and propulsion.
According to Miika Reinikka, President and CEO of The Switch, feedback from the show has been very positive.
“The Switch customers appreciate that our new shareholders have shown a long-term commitment to develop The Switch products and customer service. BEMAC customers are happy to see broader range of products to be supported and eventually manufactured locally in Japan. Our European system integrator customers have also expressed their interest in Japan market and are looking forward to seeing how BEMAC can help build their business in that market,” he says.
Nakauchi Daisuke, Corporate Officer, BEMAC, Executive General Manager of Power Electronics Segment, agrees that the unified company forces are offering more for the market. “The most significant benefit is that our customers now have easier access to The Switch’s PM shaft generators and DC-Hub products, which are crucial for achieving their zero emissions goals,” he says.
Over the next few months, BEMAC plans to train its engineers on the commissioning and after-sales services of The Switch products, enhance the DC-Hub’s manufacturing capabilities in Japan and engage in the joint development of power modules.
The Switch was also featured in Maritime Reporter TV:
Earlier this year, Japan’s BEMAC completed the deal to become majority stakeholder in The Switch, an acquisition providing the proverbial ‘win-win’ for both sides, as BEMAC got a leg-up on modern electric solutions for ships, while The Switch saw benefits from the assets of a much larger organization and an entrance into the difficult-to-penetrate Japanese shipbuilding market. At SMM 2024 in Hamburg, Maritime Reporter TV caught up with a quartet of executives from both organizations to discuss changes in the organization to date, as well as some practical advice for shipowners mulling the switch.
