Norwegian-based Skarv Shipping Solutions has chosen The Switch, in partnership with system integrator Berg Propulsion, to supply its innovative DC-Hub for optimized DC operations. The order includes 2 The Switch DC-Hubs for 4 new hybrid 7,000 DWT multipurpose vessels, which will be forerunners in low fuel consumption and low carbon emissions.
The design includes an optimized engine ready for ammonia or methanol, batteries, a shore power system and peak shaving with a dynamic propeller drive system. It also features a high-voltage switchboard for future green power production, including fuel cell technologies and increased battery capacity.
The first The Switch DC-Hubs were delivered in December 2024, followed by the rest in early 2025.
According to Juha Reinilä, Key Account Manager of The Switch, “This order demonstrates Skarv Shipping’s trust in The Switch DC-Hubs to help decarbonize the maritime industry. We look forward to working closely with Berg Propulsion in finding innovative and optimized solutions that reduce emissions and costs – and improve the efficiency of shipping.”
