In early December, representatives from The Switch visited Shanghai for Marintec China 2025 – one of the largest and most influential marine exhibitions in the world. The event gathered thousands of visitors across eight massive halls, offering a clear view of where the marine industry is heading and how The Switch is positioned in the fast-evolving Chinese market.
A strong presence
Although The Switch did not host a standalone booth, BEMAC dedicated a major portion of their space to The Switch products, including a rotating 3D-printed PM shaft generator model that attracted significant attention. The booth’s location in the first hall ensured excellent visibility. The constant flow of visitors confirmed that The Switch brand remains highly recognized and respected in China.
What stood out most was how many customers – and even competitors – acknowledged The Switch as the clear market leader in PM shaft generators with the strongest reference list. Many also praised the company’s fast response times and high-quality technical support, which remain important differentiators in a tightening market.
Technology trends: PM takes the lead
A consistent message throughout the exhibition was that permanent magnet technology has become the preferred choice for modern ships. Shipowners now clearly understand the efficiency and long-term benefits of PM machines, accelerating the shift away from conventional generators.
Other notable trends included a growing interest in propulsion motors, especially tandem configurations. Still, there is also a surge of new suppliers offering generators and propulsion motors.
While the competition is expanding, our strong local manufacturing capability and our proven performance keep us in a solid position.
The big picture
The exhibition confirmed that PM machines are becoming the industry standard, not the exception.
Maintaining a lead position requires active engagement, fast support and continued emphasis on quality – key areas where customers already see clear value in The Switch.
China’s marine market is evolving rapidly, and the momentum behind electrification is only increasing. Marintec China 2025 made it clear that the opportunities are significant, and The Switch is looking forward to continuing its leading role in this area.
