Reference Al Rawabi

Al Rawabi #1 and #2 are offshore supply vessels that aimed to add batteries to their existing power system.

Together as a joint project with Wärtsilä, Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch delivered four 1,500 active front end (AFE) building blocks for the vessel’s clean power applications, a battery connect and The Switch Electronic Bus Link (EBL).

Grid compliance of the AFE is a THDu of <5%. The AFE controls the grid and DC voltage. It provides island mode support from a blackout start. The AFE ensures active harmonics damping.

The main advantages of The Switch delivery are that the vessels can use electric mode when stationery in the field or at port. Redundancy is ensured with The Switch EBL. The EBL also enables the vessel to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Peak shaving is possible.

Deliveries took approximately 4 months, with equipment from The Switch being supplied in the spring of 2022.
