Gardner Denver Pulp & Paper

Gardner Denver Pulp & Paper, formerly Runtech of Finland, has placed continuous volume orders for high-speed motors and drives to be used in its paper machine vacuum systems that run at over 10,000 rpm. Learn how we helped them save energy, space, weight and water in their vacuum system.

MAN Energy Systems

MAN Energy Systems, formerly MAN Turbo, chose our solid rotor technology for a high-power compressor of 8 MW, 10,000–12,000 rpm, for a gas application that survives subsea installation with aggressive gases.

GARUDA, India

Garuda Vaayu Shakthi Limited chose The Switch to be the supplier for 2 high-speed 700 kW PMG and FPC packages, which were commissioned in 2011 in India.

Doosan, South Korea

Doosan of Korea has been an important customer since 2009 for the 3 MW class, high-speed PMG product family from The Switch.

ATB Riva Calzoni SpA, Italy

Two sets of high-speed 500 kW drive train prototypes from The Switch were installed in Italy by ATB Riva Calzoni SpA.

Geoho Energy, China

The Switch has delivered 100 high-speed PMGs for Geoho Energy’s 2 MW turbines.

Chongqing Haizhuang Windpower Equipment, China

Our first high-speed 5 MW drive train packages were installed in 2013 and are successfully operating for Chongqing Haizhuang Windpower Equipment’s offshore wind power project in China.

Second order for Dong Fang; first collaboration with Moventas

The Switch has signed a new agreement with Dong Fang for a 3 MW drive train to be designed in collaboration with Finland-based Moventas, who will deliver the gear solution for the turbine. The aim is to optimize the entire package for Dong Fang to sell to the Chinese market. The new order comes right after the successful startup of The Switch 1.5 MW direct-driven generators.

Utility-grade solar – built for tough

In many ways, there isn’t much new in renewable energy. Renewable energy, of course, is new in the sense of what it means. The energy source renews itself and its availability is as such plentiful. Yet, both wind and hydro energy have been captured for hundreds of years, for example, in sailboats, windmills, hydro powered mills, saws and other equipment. Solar was harvested in greenhouses and for heating long before there were photovoltaic panels.

Signs of growth

Last month’s HUSUM WindEnergy exhibition gave us firm proof that the wind power business is moving ahead again. We’re seeing movement from all different directions and positive signs that the worst may now be over. Bigger and better turbines are currently being developed to respond to future market requirements.

Future-proofing isn’t only about fuel choice – it’s about what your power system can survive

Shipowners are being asked to commit to fuel strategies, regulations and operating profiles that remain uncertain. True future-proofing isn’t only about choosing the “right” energy source but about designing power systems that can absorb change, contain faults and remain operable as complexity increases. For today’s shipowners, “future-proofing” has become one of the most overused –…
