The Switch – part of a pioneering story to create a lasting legacy

REM Pioneer has been named Ship of the year 2026 by Skipsrevyen, one of Norway’s leading maritime publications. The Switch is proud to be one of the technology providers enabling this award-winning vessel and helping to shape the future of sustainable offshore operations.

Contracted by REM Offshore in 2024, REM Pioneer is designed for demanding subsea installation work in the renewable energy, oil and gas industries. The vessel combines sustainability, efficiency and innovation in a groundbreaking design.

When operating on MGO, the vessel is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 50% compared with similar vessels. The vessel has the potential for zero-emission operation when running on green methanol. In port, REM Pioneer is emission-free using the advanced cSnake marine shore-to-ship power and charging connection system developed by system integrator Haf Power Solutions (HPS).

The Switch delivered its advanced DC-Hubs with Electronic Bus Links (EBLs) to form a common DC distribution system that integrates the permanent magnet propulsion and thruster motors. The dual-fuel methanol engines are connected to battery energy storage via the DC-Hub, while fully electric offshore lifting equipment allows regenerative power return to the batteries. In all, the system supports greater efficiency and lower emissions throughout the vessel’s operations.

The project highlights the outstanding capabilities of the Norwegian maritime cluster and demonstrates how industry collaboration can accelerate the transition to cleaner offshore solutions. We are proud to contribute with our technology to help pioneering efforts become real-world accomplishments.
