Tailoring high-speed machines to customers’ needs

No two turbomachinery applications are exactly alike. That’s why developing a high-speed machine starts with understanding the application. One-size-fits-all products rarely fit.

In a new article for Turbomachinery International, Jonna Tiainen, R&D Project Manager at The Switch, explains how customer requirements are carried through every stage of development, from initial customer discussions and feasibility studies to prototype verification and serial manufacturing.

“As the high-speed machine is often an integral part of the process, it must be designed to fit seamlessly into that process,” says Tiainen. “That level of customization is only possible with a strong commitment to listening to customer requirements and understanding the process around the machine.”

This application-focused development process has helped The Switch supply more than 1,000 solid-rotor machines, with no rotor failures recorded.
