The Switch receives TÜV Certificate of Conformity
for The Sun Switch solar inverter

The Switch’s utility-grade solar inverter with its rugged outdoor design and totally self-contained liquid-cooling system received certification by TÜV of Germany on June 5, 2012.

Now with CE marking and declaration of conformity to ENEL, The Sun Switch PVI 1000 solar inverter fulfills all requirements outlined in the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2006/95/EC and the Directive of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) 2004/108/EC.

About us

Making permanent results The Switch was founded in 2006 with a challenger mindset. We wanted to break the status quo in the wind industry by pushing the permanent magnet (PM) generator and full-power converter drive train as the technology of choice. Nearly 15 years later, there has been a shift in wind power technology with…

New orders for PMM1000M shaft generators

On June 1, 2026, The Switch received a new order to deliver PMM1000M inline shaft generators for two newbuild hybrid 4,500 CEU pure car and truck carriers (PCTC). The Norwegian owner plans to operate these vessels in shallow water areas on short sea routes within Europe. Delivery of the first permanent magnet (PM) shaft generator…

From power generation to propulsion: expanding the role of permanent magnet technology

Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have driven energy prices sharply upward, further pushing the global transition away from fossil fuels. Across industries, this shift is becoming increasingly urgent – and in the maritime sector, it is reinforcing the business case for electrification. As fuel costs rise and emissions regulations tighten, electrification is reshaping…

The Switch secures a repeat order for 86 high-speed induction motors

Continuing a successful collaboration, The Switch has received an order for 86 new high-speed solid-rotor induction motors from a long-term customer. With this latest order, the total number of motors ordered by the customer has increased to nearly 350 units. Deliveries for the new order will ramp up during the second half of 2026, reaching…

Expanding uses of high-speed solid rotor technology

High-speed solid rotor technology has proven itself useful in nearly every high-speed application. High-speed solid rotors can be used in any application where the load can be connected directly to the electrical machine without a gearbox and the circumferential speed of the rotor is higher than 100 m/s. Developed to address the existing gap between…

STEESMAT: Pioneering power systems for the maritime green transition

Decarbonizing shipping is one of the greatest challenges facing the maritime industry today. While much of the debate has focused on alternative fuels, the truth is that the future fleet will also require far more efficient and flexible energy systems. This is precisely the focus of STEESMAT – a consortium of 13 European partners, including The Switch.

How to ensure successful PM shaft generator commissioning

Commissioning is the final handover of The Switch PM shaft generator to the system integrator at the shipyard. Multiple stakeholders and many participants are involved in these projects. Typically, they include: Although we at The Switch contribute only one component, how we do our part affects many others. Our focus from the beginning is to…
