The Switch motor combined with MAN TURBO compressor succesfully tested and proceeding to seabed

In October 2007, MAN TURBO of Switzerland announced the successful factory testing of its HOFIM™ compact compressor system, a sub-sea gas compression solution that includes highly tailored basic motor technology from The Switch. This motor is part of a future-oriented project financed by the Åsgard Licence Partners in Norway to develop compression systems for the next generation of oil and gas production.

The Switch together with MAN TURBO developed the high-speed motor, based on solid rotor technology, for the compressor system that will be used in a challenging environment of uncleaned wellstream gas.

Medium-speed PMG + FPC – why not?

As PM technology can be applied to all wind turbine drive train topologies, you can choose the one that is best for your own purpose. Especially in the high-power range above 5 MW that is applicable to offshore the size of the direct-drive generator tends to be too large and the three-stage gearbox increases the risk of faults.

The Switch enters 2009 with an order backlog in tens of millions of Euro

The Switch continues strengthening its market position in its business area of megawatt-class generator and power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications. For 2009, the company has received orders worth tens of millions of Euros. The company’s successful offering combines leading technology with record-achieving system reliability.

During 2008, The Switch continued its fast growth, exceeding that of the wind power market in general. The company has been successful in answering the high market demand with a network of carefully selected partners.

Permanent magnet generators for wind

Medium-speed permanent magnet generators Up to 10 MW, 100–600 rpm Our medium-speed PMGs operate with a single- or two-stage gearbox. Combining the advantages of low- and high-speed technology, these PMGs offer extremely high availability and reliability, resulting in increased annual energy production. FusionDrive® The most compact medium-speed solution available on the market today, FusionDrive®, utilizes…

Liquid cooling is an excellent choice for resilient marine power systems

When we talk about building more resilient ships, the conversation usually revolves around fuel flexibility, smart energy management and robust control systems. But another layer of resilience at the very core of onboard power conversion often gets overlooked — effective thermal design. Modern vessels — whether hybrid, fully electric or simply optimized for greater efficiency…

The Switch receives additional solid-rotor orders

In March 2025, The Switch secured a new order for 60 high-speed induction motors. This order is part of a long-term contract with the same customer and brings the total number of ordered motors to 250 of which nearly 150 have already been delivered. Deliveries for this latest order will start at the end of…

The Switch to deliver 2 PMM1500Ms for newbuild Pure Car, Truck Carriers

An order for two The Switch PMM1500M permanent magnet (PM) shaft generators was received for a newbuild Pure Car, Truck Carrier (PCTC) with the option for an additional two vessels. The vessels will use the shaft generators for power take out (PTO). The first PMM1500M is scheduled for delivery in Q1 2026 and the second…

Ultrafast protection is key to very large marine battery systems

Incat Tasmania’s new Ro-Pax ferry is a big step forward in the development of all-electric vessels! Powered by the largest energy storage system of any vessel to date, the lightweight catamaran ferry also breaks ground with a number of other firsts when delivered in 2025: “The vessel redefines the future of ferry operations worldwide and…
