The Switch receives permanent magnet shaft generator order for LNG vessel

April 7, 2016 – The Switch has been selected to deliver its PM shaft generator for an LNG carrier with a 45,000 cubic meter cargo capacity, allowing the vessel to gain greater efficiency over its entire speed range. This order is part of a complete energy efficiency system being delivered by WE Tech Solutions of Finland to Saga LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. The vessel will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.

Direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution for world’s first LNG-fueled handysize bulk carriers

May 10, 2016 – WE Tech Solutions has received an order to deliver its direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution to two new 25,600 dwt dual-fueled handysize bulk carriers. The Switch will deliver the PM shaft generators to be used in the solutions provided by WE Tech. The vessels are owned by the Finnish ship owner ESL Shipping Ltd., the leading carrier of dry bulk cargoes in the Baltic Sea region. The ship owner chose PM shaft generator technology to support its sustainability strategy and start a new era in green shipping within pollution-sensitive seaways.

Making a splash in the marine industry

April 13–15, 2016 – The Switch marine team participated in the Ferry Shipping Conference, perhaps the biggest and most important event of its kind in the industry. At the conference, the company displayed its new counter-flux rotor and gave a 10-minute presentation on permanent magnet shaft generator technology.

Plugging into energy at Hannover Messe

April 25–29, 2016 – The Switch participated at the Hannover Messe, introducing its new high-speed induction machines for turbo applications. It was great to be part of the world’s biggest industrial fair, being especially notable this year thanks to the special visit from Barack Obama.

Special distinction for Panu in China

Panu Kurronen, Product Manager for Generators at The Switch, has been nominated as an emeritus by the National Engineering Research Center for Offshore Windpower. This makes him an emeritus expert of the organization’s technical committee. The center is based in Chongqing, China, and specializes in offshore wind power equipment and technology research.
