Dear friends,
This year, The Switch is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It is a special moment to pause, look back at our shared journey and recognize the people, partnerships and ideas that have shaped our company.
Since The Switch was established in 2006, our path has included ambitious innovations, rapid growth, difficult market changes and several important transformations. We started as a bold technology challenger in wind power. Over the years, we have expanded our technologies into marine and industrial applications and developed into a trusted electrification partner for customers around the world.
In this special 2026 anniversary newsletter, we highlight 20 milestones from our history. They include products and technologies that opened new opportunities, customers and partners who placed their trust in us and important achievements that moved our company forward. Each milestone tells part of the story, but the real strength of The Switch has always been our ability to learn, adapt and build the future together.
Our success has never been created by technology alone. It has been built by people.
I would therefore like to thank our current and former employees for their commitment, courage and expertise. I also want to sincerely thank our customers, partners, suppliers and shareholders for their trust and cooperation throughout these 20 years.
Today, The Switch is an integral part of the BEMAC Group and has a strong foundation for the future. As we enter our next chapter, our ambition remains unchanged: to work closely with our customers and develop game-changing technologies that make electrification cleaner, more efficient and more reliable.
Thank you for being part of our first 20 years, and I look forward to continuing the journey together.

Our highlights

The Switch – part of a pioneering story to create a lasting legacy
REM Pioneer has been named Ship of the year 2026 by Skipsrevyen, one of Norway’s leading maritime publications. The Switch is proud to be one of the technology providers enabling this award-winning vessel and helping to shape the future of sustainable offshore operations.
Hot summer: What today’s order wave tells us about the marine market
This summer, the marine industry has seen exceptionally high activity. At The Switch, we’re seeing strong demand from both existing and new customers. Our order backlog is at an all-time high, with deliveries extending several years into the future. What is driving this activity, and what does it tell us about the future of the marine market?

The Switch at SMM: Nerding out on DC ships with the industry
How can DC-based power systems move from promising technology to market-ready solutions for the maritime industry? This was the focus of the STEESMAT and ALL-DC-SHIPS workshop at SMM 2026 in Hamburg on September 3.
The workshop brought together shipowners, technology suppliers, class societies, researchers and other maritime stakeholders to discuss what is needed to accelerate the adoption of DC power systems on board vessels.
Future-proofing isn’t only about fuel choice – it’s about what your power system can survive
For today’s shipowners, “future-proofing” has become one of the most overused – and least precise – terms in the industry. It’s usually framed as a question of fuel: methanol or ammonia, batteries or biofuels, hybrids now or something else later. Each option comes with regulatory, commercial and technical uncertainty, and owners are being asked to make long-term decisions without knowing which assumptions will hold.
But there’s a quieter risk embedded in that framing.

The Switch and BEMAC power ahead in marine electrification
What happens when 20 years of The Switch’s technology and innovation meets 80 years of BEMAC engineering expertise?
In a Maritime Reporter TV interview recorded at SMM 2026, Miika Reinikka, President & CEO of The Switch, and Nakauchi Daisuke, Corporate Officer at BEMAC, discuss the companies’ collaboration since BEMAC acquired The Switch in 2024.
Two specialists, one shared ambition: The Switch and SpinDrive take high-speed machinery further
What happens when two Finnish specialists in high-speed machinery bring their expertise together? A cooperation that turns complementary technologies into new possibilities for industrial applications.
The Switch and SpinDrive work on different parts of the same engineering challenge.

How to navigate the hidden costs of a permanent magnet shaft generator
Shipowners and shipbuilders – are you looking for a permanent magnet shaft generator (PMSG) for your next ship?
Permanent magnet synchronous machine technology is driving the global maritime industry’s decarbonization shift. As a result, today’s market is flooded with budget manufacturers offering lower prices for this big-ticket item.
